If you are a young person in need of urgent assistance, or you are concerned about a young person’s mental health, please use one of the following options:

If you feel at immediate risk, go to any A&E department at any time, day or night, and ask to speak to someone. A&E is open to all ages. If you cannot get there, call 999.

For urgent 24-hour help that is not an emergency, call 111 for Mental Health Services - NHS (www.nhs.uk). This is suitable for all ages.

Telephone the Papyrus 24-hour Hopeline** on 0800 068 41 41 (for children and young people under 35 experiencing suicidal thoughts or for anyone concerned that a young person could be thinking about suicide).

SHOUT, a crisis messaging service for all ages, provides free, 24/7, confidential crisis support. If you are experiencing a mental health crisis and need support, you can text SHOUT to 85258 anonymously. They will listen to you, help you think through how you’re feeling, and aim to help you take the next steps towards feeling better. Texts are free from most major networks.

KOOTH: https://www.kooth.com- Text-based conversations with counsellors for ages 10-25, as well as self-help articles and peer-to-peer forums.

On My Mind: https://www.annafreud.org/on-my-mind/self-care - Information and advice for young people with plenty of self-care ideas for looking after mental health and wellbeing (suitable for 11-25 year olds).

The Listening Place: https://listeningplace.org.uk, free face-to-face support for people aged 18 and over who are struggling with suicidal thoughts. Face-to-face appointments are offered from 9am-9pm, 7 days a week. There is a self-referral form on the website, alternatively you can telephone 0203 906 7676.
